This commission began as part of a wider interior scheme where the intention was to add depth and atmosphere to the room through a rich and expressive colour palette. The sofas already chosen featured beautiful tones of blue, orange and mustard, and it was important that the artworks did not merely sit alongside those colours, but actively help shape and elevate the room.

The natural artist to turn to was Benoit Havard, whose work has an extraordinary way of capturing the movement and energy of a city. His cityscapes already held the mood and dynamism the room needed, but what made this commission personal was the desire to depict two cities of particular significance to the owners: New York and Paris, places tied to treasured memories and experiences.

There were existing perspectives of both cities that the clients loved, but the available artworks were in the wrong colour palette for the room and the sizing was not ideal for the wall they were intended for. This is often where commission offers possibilities that off the shelf works simply cannot. Rather than compromising, it allowed the views the clients loved to be reimagined specifically for their interior, with colours tailored to the room and dimensions adjusted so the pieces would sit perfectly within the space.

It feels as though we have two windows onto places we love most.

Benoit executed this beautifully, creating two bespoke cityscapes that carried all the atmosphere and movement his work is known for, while weaving in the blues, oranges and mustard tones already present in the furnishings. The result was not simply two artworks of favourite places, but two highly personal pieces that brought richness, personality and a sense of story into the room.

What made the commission especially successful was the way it balanced memory with design. The artworks tied seamlessly into the colour scheme and composition of the room, while also acting almost as windows into places the owners hold dear. They do not simply depict New York and Paris, they evoke the feeling of being there and the memories associated with those cities.

That is often the power of bespoke art. It allows collectors not just to choose something beautiful, but to shape something meaningful around the way they live and what they love. The owners often say the works feel like windows onto great memories from their travels, and that was exactly what the commission set out to achieve.

Sometimes the perfect artwork does not already exist. Sometimes it needs to be created so a room can reach its full potential.
