This project centred around transforming a cottage into a fully styled boutique Airbnb in the heart of Northamptonshire. The brief was clear. To create a space that felt warm, characterful, and memorable, while also being practical and durable for frequent guests.

The team at The Artizen were asked to design every room, from the living space and kitchen to the main bedroom and a second room that would function as both a study and dressing room. Every detail needed to work beautifully, but also withstand the demands of a short stay property.

The living room was designed first, with practicality at its core. A leather sofa was chosen for ease of maintenance, softened with cushions to create warmth and comfort. A patterned rug added colour and character while remaining hard wearing and easy to care for. As there was no separate dining room, a compact dining area was incorporated into the space, offering functionality without encroaching on the living area.

Lighting was layered carefully to avoid reliance on harsh main lights, creating a relaxed atmosphere in the evenings. Storage was thoughtfully planned through a shelving unit with drawers and a media unit housing the television, ensuring the room felt organised and uncluttered.

Art played a key role in giving the space its identity. Bold, expressive works by Paul James introduced colour, energy, and cultural references, blending urban graffiti influences with more classic animal subjects. These pieces brought personality and memorability to the space, helping the cottage stand out as a true boutique stay.

The kitchen was fully equipped to ensure guests had everything they needed. Pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, chopping boards, and all essential items were carefully selected and styled. Two stools at the breakfast bar completed the space, while a striking marine artwork by John Halswell added a calm coastal note and visual interest.

We wanted guests to feel instantly relaxed the moment they walked in. The Artizen team created a space people genuinely remember.

Upstairs, the main bedroom was designed to feel restful and inviting. A comfortable bed was dressed with soft cushions and a throw, creating a cosy atmosphere. Artwork by Paul James, including a leopard piece titled King Spotted, added depth and character while keeping the palette calm and neutral. Accent flowers and bedside lighting completed the room, alongside a small unit for bags on arrival.

The second bedroom was styled as a flexible space, functioning as both a dressing room and study. An armchair added comfort and style, while a dressing table could be used for makeup or remote working. A spacious wardrobe ensured ample storage for longer stays, with flowers and lamps adding warmth and atmosphere.

Throughout the property, a signature scent was chosen to enhance the guest experience from the moment they arrived. The bathroom was also fully dressed with towels and carefully selected toiletries, ensuring the space felt considered, functional, and welcoming.

The overall aim was to create a dream getaway. A place that felt special, personal, and thoughtfully designed, rather than generic. By treating the cottage as if it were their own, the Artizen team created a boutique Airbnb that has since hosted many guests and many happy memories.
