Gill first visited The Artizen while looking for a Christmas gift for her husband, not realising it would lead to a complete transformation of her living space. Inspired by the artwork and a conversation with the team, she found a creative partnership she could trust.
When Gill and her husband Ed later renovated their living room themselves, they quickly realised how difficult doing everything alone could be. Attempting to manage a big space, conflicting styles, and hundreds of little decisions left them frustrated, overwhelmed and with a room that never truly felt right. So, when it came to the kitchen, their most important and most complicated space, Gill knew she wanted a different experience. She needed someone with vision, reliability, technical know how, and the confidence to steer the project from start to finish.
Many clients feel nervous about letting someone into their property, but Gill found that the team instantly put her at ease. They listened, asked the right questions, and got to know who she and Ed were beyond the walls of their property. Gill often describes herself as practical, logical and busy, while Ed is more traditional. Their styles had previously clashed, leaving their spaces feeling split rather than shared. The Artizen’s job was to blend their personalities into one seamless, expressive space.
Throughout the renovation, communication was effortless. A simple group chat meant everyone was always up to date, decisions were made quickly, and problems were solved before they became stressful. Gill describes this as one of the things that made the whole experience feel “seamless.”
As the kitchen took shape, the team ensured every detail supported the bigger vision, not only in terms of beauty, but practicality. From creating the right flow for everyday cooking, to ensuring lighting, heating, and electrical points were perfectly positioned, every element was designed around how Gill and Ed lived.

It’s not a house anymore, it’s my home.

Gill trusted the process more than she ever thought she would. She even let the team change the wall colours while she was out of the country, something she now says was one of the best decisions.

Once the structure was complete, the final stage was the Artizen transformation, the styling and finishing touches that turned a newly fitted kitchen into a meaningful, personal space. This included lighting design, bespoke storage, a gallery wall, artwork chosen specifically for them, and the now iconic flower ladder, a completely original installation featuring 250 hand placed flowers suspended in a way that added height, warmth, and personality.

When she came home and saw the finished space for the first time, her reaction was unforgettable. Emotional, surprised, and overwhelmed, she stood in the middle of her kitchen and said “It’s not a house anymore, it’s my home.”
Today, the kitchen is the heart of their lives. Gill starts her mornings there with coffee, taking in the gallery wall that she says inspires her daily. It is where she works, cooks with Ed, relaxes, and unwinds. The room is now a place that makes her smile the moment she walks in.
Months later, the joy has not faded. In fact, it has changed how they use the whole space. The kitchen is now tidy, effortless to maintain, warm in winter, cool in summer, and filled with character. It’s also sparked the next chapter, they are already planning the next room transformation.
For Gill, The Artizen didn’t just design a kitchen. They created a place where a busy couple could breathe, enjoy, and finally feel at home.
