Natalie Lloyd-Tombleson is best known for her abstract seascape paintings. Having grown up along the North Norfolk coast her love of the sea is deep rooted. The big open skies and ever-changing colours inspire her work. Her paintings are layered with various textures and rich colours. Often using resin to add a water-like translucency, evoking a sense of tranquillity and natural flow. Natalie’s art journey began with a 2B pencil. From a very young age, she was inspired by Cecil Beaton & George Hurrell’s classic black and white photos of old Hollywood Movies stars. She would often spend over a hundred hours on a portrait drawing, patiently perfecting its photo-like detail. Then one day she decided to swap her pencil for a paintbrush and explored a completely different medium. Natalie found freedom in expressing herself through abstract painting. Her new style of art felt like therapy, as she let her subconscious guide the outcome. Natalie’s initial dream was to work as a professional artist, but at the time she didn’t believe it could be a reality. Although she continued to stay committed to developing her art, she decided to pursue another creative career as a makeup artist, which she did professionally for over 20 years. Working in Theatre, Fashion, Film and Television and then later becoming a Lecturer in Cambridge teaching Media Makeup and Special Effects. Natalie often incorporates makeup into her paintings, using unique pigments to create an iridescent glow, which then becomes emphasised by the light passing through the resin. This allows the painting to reflect and absorb its surroundings, in turn becoming a part of the space it inhabits. Natalie is passionate about creating art that promotes positive mental health and wellbeing, encouraging the mind to disconnect and feel free in a moment of pure escapism.
