Sophie’s home in Warwickshire was a typical new build. Clean, bright, and practical, but lacking warmth, character, and personal meaning. After previously living by the sea, she missed the calm and familiarity that had shaped her earlier life, and she wanted to bring some of that feeling into this new chapter.

Her journey with The Artizen began with a single intention. To find a piece of art in memory of her mum. What followed was something far more meaningful.

Working closely with Andreea, Sophie began building a collection of artwork that reflected emotion, movement, and memory. She was immediately drawn to the work of Alison Johnson. Sophie connected deeply with Alison’s approach. Her work does not simply depict scenes. It expresses feeling. Each piece feels alive, open to interpretation, and rich with colour and energy.

Alison is a local artist based in Warwickshire, which added even more meaning to the project. Sophie met her in person at one of the artist events hosted by The Artizen, and that connection made the artwork feel truly hers. It was no longer just something chosen for the wall, but something personal and emotionally connected.

With the artwork chosen, the focus turned to the living room. Sophie wanted to keep what she already loved. The three sofas, the curtains, and the existing furniture all stayed. The challenge was to refresh the space without replacing it.

The artwork became the reference point. Cushions were selected to draw out the colours within the paintings, instantly lifting the sofas without the need for reupholstering. Hyper realistic flowers echoed the palette further, adding depth and warmth. Soft lighting and carefully chosen lamps created a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for evenings spent with family, board games, and their two dogs curled up nearby.

One year ago I popped into The Artizen gallery while visiting Heart of the Shires. Today Andreea spent a full day arranging the many pieces I have since purchased. I feel treated like family whether I am buying art or simply browsing.

Scent was introduced as part of the experience, adding another layer to the room. Candles completed the setting, especially on colder evenings when the log burner was lit and the pace of life slowed.

To deepen the narrative of the space, sculpture was introduced. Birth of Aphrodite symbolised new beginnings and quiet strength, while Life Rhythm by Annette Ryden reflected the movement, memories, and rhythm of family life. These pieces added meaning beyond decoration, giving the room a story that felt considered and personal.

This project marked the beginning of an ongoing collaboration. Sophie and Andreea continued working together across most of the home, redesigning multiple rooms and building a genuine friendship along the way. It is a reminder that art does not just transform spaces. It connects people.

Today, Sophie’s home no longer feels like a standard new build. It feels warm, characterful, and deeply personal. What was once ordinary has become something truly extraordinary.
