This project began with a shift in purpose. What had once been a general living area within Sophie’s annex was no longer needed in that way, opening the door for something far more personal. The vision was to transform the space into a multifunctional room that could work as an office, a craft room, and a yoga studio. A place for focus, creativity, and calm.

The team at The Artizen began with decluttering, creating a clear foundation for what the room could become. From there, every decision focused on versatility, personality, and joy.

Because the room needed to function both as a workspace and a craft area, the desk was a key element. A piece was chosen that felt stylish, quirky, and different, yet remained highly functional for both focused work and hands on creative projects. Existing shelving was kept and carefully styled rather than replaced, layered with flowers, accessories, and sculptures that echoed the colours within the artwork, proving that practical elements can also be beautiful.

As always, art sat at the heart of the design. Work by Richard King was chosen for its distinctive use of glass, creating a strong visual signature without overpowering the room. The artwork brought colour, texture, and individuality, while also reflecting Sophie’s personality and creative energy.

A bright pink seating area was introduced to inject joy and playfulness into the space, balancing productivity with expression. The colour palette throughout was intentionally bold yet harmonious, allowing the room to evolve alongside Sophie’s creative pursuits. Plants were added to soften the space and bring warmth, while layered lighting using floor and table lamps ensured the room felt calm and inviting in the evenings without relying on overhead light.

A vibrant rug pulled together the colours of the artwork, furniture, and seating, grounding the room visually. Flowers and a carefully chosen signature scent completed the sensory experience, creating a space that felt uplifting, personal, and unmistakably hers.

This room feels like my own little world. Calm, creative, and completely me.

The yoga area was given its own identity within the annex. Figurative artworks by Chuck introduced gentle movement and colour, creating an environment where Sophie could fully relax and reconnect. At the heart of this space sat a sculpture titled Birth Of Aphrodite, a meaningful piece that reflected Sophie’s connection to the sea and symbolised this room as her safe space.

Sophie loved the transformation so much that she gave the room a name of its own. The Zen Den, inspired by The Artizen and the feeling the space created, a name that captured exactly what the room had become.

This annex is now more than just a room. It is a retreat within the home. A place for creativity, calm, and self expression. A space that reflects Sophie’s inner world and gives her time that is entirely her own.
